Meeting was opened at 7.50pm
Dave g8pgo gave a short speech about how things were progressing
how we had gained a few members and sadly lost a few over the last 12 due to sk or just lost interest.
And how there were projects still in the pipe line for when we can safety reopen the club rooms.
And also said there was still a lot of work to be done at the club to get it to a decent standard.
Sandra read the secretary report
pleased with up take on zoom meetings and how this is a sign of the times and how it may continue
even after the club reopens
also how committee meetings could still continue on another evening not a Monday via zoom
also it was said how good the talks via zoom had been and that we would try and get more sorted it was pleasing that other clubs had joined us for these talks
At this time we have 33 paid up members and how we had declined in numbers over the lst few years,
Phil mentioned we could start online membership,
we need to encourage new members to join us,
Also to refresh the web site on a regular basis,
Mike g4sjx Treasurer
Been a different/difficult year things have just gone in and out by standing order

Committee Meeting 10. Jan 1971
Present

T. Barratt (Hon. Treasurer)
C. Craythorne

- Minutes of last Committee Meeting read.
- Secretary to arrange a re-print of club rules as now amended.
- Consideration of matters arising from the A.G.M. J Harris' suggestion of a circular to be sent to some of the local amateurs who were not members of the society was thought not to hold much hope of success in the light of past experience and it was decided that each member of the Committee would gather together a list of a few potential members before the next committee meeting when it would be decided how to approach each with the best chance of success.
- The Secretary was instructed to draw up and have printed a suitable notice for display in the amateur Radio Shops in the city; this notice to have the effect of publicising the clubs existence.
- The Secretary was instructed to arrange for the clubs activities to be mentioned in the R.S.G.B. News Bulletin. It was thought that it would be a good idea to promote listening to the Bulletin at the Club-house on Sunday mornings.
- Mr. Rawcliffe brought to the committee's attention the invitation from the Leicester Association for Leisure Activities which reminded the club of its entitlement to send two representatives to that organisations A.G.M. on Tuesday 12 Jan. 1971.
It was decided to approach Mr McAllister who would almost certainly be interested in this. - Mr. Barratt (Hon. Treasurer) suggested that £20 of the club's operating surplus at the end of the last financial year should be deposited without delay with a Building Society to start the equipment find. After discussion the Treasurer was instructed to carry this out in the manner he thought best.
- The Chairman raised a point which he thought might well serve to publicise Amateur Radio in the City & County when he mentioned that the librarian of the Oadby Public Library would probably be quite happy to allow members of the club to stage quiet exhibitions of the art of Amateur Radio on Saturday afternoons in a small room at the library. These would be small demonstrations which would not need elaborate staging; and complicated technicals problems would not be involved. This idea was discussed and although it was agreed that no harm could possibly be done by such exhibitions no decision was taken.
Meeting closed by D. Wills (Chair) at 12.55p.m.

Secretary's Report for the year ending 31 December 1970
- In the last twelve months the Committee met 7 times. Early in the year we unfortunate in losing the services of Jim MacAllister due to illness and John Garner was co-opted onth the Committee in order to fill this gap.
- Indoor Activities.
- In the whole twelve months we were only able to arrange one outside lecturer, named Bob Palmer G5PP who gave his well-known talk on mobile equipment.
- Other subjects for Monday evening meetings included quizzes, discussions and a Constructors' Contest. The latter was won by the Chairman, Deryk Wills, G3XKX for the Seniors, and John Moore, SWL, for the juniors.
- Attempts were made to get Construction Project Groups under way but these were frustrated by the apathy of the Members. It is suggested by the retiring Committee that a further attempt be made, this time the subject to be the receiver now being described in "Practical Wireless."
- After a slow start, the RAE classes began on 2 November, but here again, with one or two exceptions, enthusiasm has not been overwhelming.
- An exception to the general pattern has been the Morse classes which have been held fairly regularly thanks to Cliff Craythorne, G3PBC. These have been well-attended, even by the holders of G8 calls, and have been supplemented by CW nets on Sundays and Tuesdays, T/V permitting.
- A new type of sponsored money-raisers appeared in the form of a 12 hour Listening Watch organised during February by the SWL's.
- The former Committee Room has now been pressed into service as a shop, enthusiastically run by the Hon. Treasurer, Tony Barratt G8BMF.
- Outdoor Activities
These were as follows:- Leisure 70 The Society operated a station under the callsign GB3LRS.
- National Field Day This was again entered by the Society which achieved the position of tenth.
- Leicester Show at Abbey Park The usual station was operated from the usual tent in the usual spot. The only thing new was the display of three-wheeled scooters by a squad of "dolly birds", who aroused the technical interest of some of our Members.
- V.H.F. Field Day Once again the LRS joined forces with the Leicestershire VHF/UHF Group and entered this contest on 3 frequencies. Our position in the overall results was 34th.
- A picnic was held in Rutland with the intention of including some /P working, but things were complicated by the non-co-operation of a local game-keeper.
- Miscellaneous
- there are certain Members of the LRS who earn our thanks for their services:-
- Trevor Adcock for making the tea in spite of a steady barrage of insults which would try the patience of a saint.
- Tony Barratt for running the Junk Shop.
- Warren Smith and his wife for feeding the multitudes at the two field days.
- Weryk Wills and his wife for the hospitality extended to the Members of the LRS when they invited us to their home for the Xmas Party.
- On the debug side of things we have nothing to be broud of in the appearance of the club-house. About the time when the Society moved into the Cottage some members (whose names do not appear in the records) put in some hard work re-wiring the buildings and decorating the downstairs rooms, but we now seem to be lacking in enthusiasm for this aspect of the LRS. We are very fortunate in having a place of our own but if we do not all do our share of the work the club-house will remain in its present run-down condition and we shall not be able to attract new members to keep our numbers up to an economical level.
All the efforts of the retiring Committee to get Members to help to get the exterior looking presentable met with grudging support from many Members. It is sincerely hoped that the new Committee will receive better support.
- there are certain Members of the LRS who earn our thanks for their services:-
